All our conservation work, including this project, is born of our love for Africa and our need to protect it. Become a part of preserving Africa’s legacy for future generations.

Singita recognises that quality early learning is critical in laying foundations for success in later life. Since 2009, we’ve been supporting Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiatives in the communities near Singita Sabi Sand and Singita Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Singita Lowveld Trust, our conservation partner in South Africa, works in partnership with ECD centre (preschool) managers and teachers, government departments and key community stakeholders. Through the Singita Holistic Early Childhood Development Support programme, children are supported to fully develop in physical, cognitive, psychological and social domains.

Key Successes:
18squiggle

The number of classrooms for babies and children younger than two years equipped by the ECD Centre Resource Drive, which is generously funded by guests. The next delivery will provide library corners with local-language children’s books at each of the preschools.

2,500squiggle

The number of children who currently benefit from our early childhood development initiative.

How it works:Core elements of the programme include:
  • School leadership and administration courses for centre managers, training for teachers to establish a stimulating learning programme, and workshops for parents to help them understand the crucial role they play in their children’s development.
  • A phased approach that supports ECD centres until they achieve good practice centre-status and are able to mentor the new centres entering the programme.
  • Ongoing engagement with stakeholders including community leaders, government and non-profit organisations to build awareness of the importance of ECD and to mobilise support and resources.
  • An ECD Centre Resource Drive that provides quality educational equipment and resources equitably to all participating centres.
How you can help:
  • Contribute to our ambitious ECD Centre Resource Drive. Based on the latest ECD research and an extensive needs assessment of each school, we’ve identified the books, educational toys, creative arts supplies and fantasy kits as well as outdoor and indoor equipment that will support the children in reaching their full potential. We are currently one-third of the way towards our goal of raising $275,000 to equip this group of schools by the end of 2021.
